Getting an MP3 Morse Code Ringtone to a Verizon Handset
By Avery Parker
Getting third-party ringtones to a verizon handset is not as straightforward as it could be. For one, they really want to promote the sales of ringtones from their own store. There is a relatively easy way that I've been using with all of the free morse code mp3 ringtones that I've made available on my site (linked below). For starters I have a Samsung Gleam, your mileage may vary with other handsets for the actual assigning of ringtones. First browse the site and select the ringtone that you want to use. I've designed all of the morse code mp3 ringtones to be fairly small filesizes and relatively short lengths. Usually thirty seconds is the maximum length for a ringtone although I've had a few get through that were longer. Once you've selected an mp3 file from the morse ringtones collection, save it to your computer. (Remember where you saved it.) Next you will need to attach that file to an email. You should create the email to yournumber@vzwpix.com It's very important that your mail go to yournumber@vzwpix.com instead of yournumber@vtext.com vzwpix.com is verizon's message hub for multimedia enabled messages, if you send the ringtone to the vtext.com address you will see a message that the attachment was stripped out. So, you should attach the mp3 file to an email going to yournumber@vzwpix.com (make sure to include the area code.) At this point I usually add a subject line matching the file name, like ring_fast.mp3, whatever the filename was called to make sure that it's identified in the message you receive. Now, send the message. On your phone you'll probably see a message that you're receiving a pix message and when it arrives it will (on my handset) play the attached audio file. Under your options for the message on the Gleam you have a chance to save it as a ringtone and it offers to set it as the ringtone after that. The specific instructions once you have the file on your handset will probably vary by your phone, model and what version of the verizon software your phone comes with. I imagine for other service providers the process would be similar as long as you are certain to use the email address that gives you mms capabilities. For verizon vzwpix.com is their mms handler and vtext.com is their sms handler.
